FINOPS ECOSYSTEM
Find the Right FinOps Solution for your Business in FinOps Weekly Hub

I have been in this space long enough to know the pain. You have a cloud cost problem. You search for a solution. You get 50 vendor websites that all look the same. Every one of them claims to save you 40%. None of them tell you if they actually fit your stack. So you waste weeks on demos that go nowhere.

The problem is not the tools. The problem is the noise.

Introducing the FinOps Weekly Hub. The one place to find the right FinOps solution for your company. Here is what makes it different:

  • Curated: Every tool is vetted by real practitioners.

  • Filtered: Search by use case, cloud provider, and company size.

  • Honest: Real community feedback, not vendor marketing.

  • Fast: Go from problem to shortlist in minutes, not weeks.

The FinOps Weekly community built this for you.

Go find your solution today.

AWS Pricing Change Analysis Dashboard

AWS

AWS Pricing Change Analysis Dashboard is now live, showing the exact dollar impact of every AWS price change on your bill — no more guessing what drove your spend up.

Compute Optimizer now looks back 32 days instead of 14 when making rightsizing picks, so its suggestions better match your real monthly usage patterns across EC2, RDS, EBS, and ECS.

CUDOS dashboards now show Bedrock costs per 1M tokens, making it much easier to track and allocate LLM spending across teams.

Google Cloud

BigQuery fluid scaling is now generally available with per-second billing and no minimum duration, so you only pay for the exact autoscaling time you use — no wasted spend on minimum slot charges.

Compute Engine now supports Flex-start VMs in managed instance groups, letting workloads grab partial capacity as it becomes available and run for up to seven days at lower cost.

Azure

Azure Global PTU reservations are now region-agnostic, so one reservation covers all regions in a Global deployment — better utilization and less wasted commitment spend.

Azure Cosmos DB gets a cost estimator in preview, letting you model throughput, storage, and regions before you provision anything, so you can pick the cheapest setup upfront.

FINOPSX
The Roadmap to FinOpsX 2026

FinOps X 2026 will be held in San Diego next week, and I’m going. I’ve been around this discipline since before it had a name, and the run-up to the conference motivated me to sit down and work through how the whole thing came to be.

My inadvertent entry point was Adobe in roughly 2012. We had moved our services from the data center to AWS and were quickly among their largest customers, which made us one of the largest customers of a Portland startup called Cloudability. I’ll never forget how an errant configuration change on our side broke Cloudability’s ingestion of our billing data entirely.

Back then, the whole job of cloud cost management was making sense of an AWS bill. Since then, with the addition of more players in the cloud space, the discipline has had to keep pivoting to serve a steadily broader purpose.

Cost of Failure: How to Measure What's at Risk When Systems Go Down

Your team just saved $60,000 a year by moving a service to a single availability zone. But what if that decision just created $180,000 in annual risk exposure?

Most organizations treat cost optimization and system reliability as separate problems handled by different teams. Finance teams cut infrastructure spend. Engineering teams track uptime. Business continuity teams set recovery targets. Nobody connects these dots with a shared financial metric. That gap creates real exposure, especially as AI workloads become standard and failure costs grow harder to predict.

What Cost of Failure Actually Measures: Cost of Failure (CoF) is a simple formula that estimates how much business value you lose when systems go down:

Cost of Failure = Value per Unit × Units Affected

Cost of Failure produces estimates for decision-making, not exact accounting figures. Partial degradation is harder to measure than complete outages.

Your data lives in separate systems that require integration work. Not every service needs this analysis - focus on revenue-generating platforms and customer-facing services. Financial exposure isn't the whole story - regulatory penalties, reputation damage, and customer trust matter too but are harder to quantify.

As FinOps practices increasingly influence architecture and platform decisions, understanding what's financially at risk when systems fail becomes a practical requirement, not a theoretical exercise.

🎖️ MENTION OF HONOUR
[CODE] The Quiet Windows Licensing Drift Nobody Notices

Windows 11 Enterprise licensing has become a quiet problem that most organizations don't notice until something forces them to look.

The issue isn't that Microsoft removed the product. The problem is how you get it has changed completely. Windows 11 Enterprise used to be something you installed once and moved on.

Now it's a state that activates on top of Windows 11 Pro when certain conditions line up: the right Microsoft 365 license, proper device management through Intune, and correct identity setup. When any of those pieces drift out of alignment, devices can slip back to Pro without anyone noticing.

Why this matters for your budget: You might be paying for Microsoft 365 E3 or E5 licenses that include Windows 11 Enterprise rights, but those capabilities aren't actually showing up on your devices. That's wasted spend on features you're not using. Or worse, you think you have Enterprise-level security controls in place when you actually don't, which creates compliance risk.

How to check what you actually have: Start with one device to ground yourself in reality. Open Command Prompt and run "systeminfo | findstr /B /C:"OS Name"" to see what edition is actually running. For your full environment, you have several options depending on what tools you already use.
