Follow the Money: Real-Time Cloud Cost Mapping Through eBPF

What if you could trace every dollar of cloud spend to the exact container, API call, or database query that caused it—in real time?

In this groundbreaking white paper, we reveal how eBPF technology enables kernel-level cost observability, transforming cloud costs from monthly mysteries into continuous telemetry streams.

Discover how leading teams are using this approach to reduce waste and tie technical decisions directly to business impact.

OPEN SOURCE
AWS FinOps MCP (Model Context Protocol) Server

AWS FinOps MCP Server has arrived to help people manage their AWS cloud costs. Great work by Ravi, creator of AWS FinOps CLI. W

ith it, instead of clicking through many AWS pages or writing code, you can simply type questions like "What did we spend on storage last month?"

It runs on your own computer, keeping your AWS account details safe

It can look at costs across multiple AWS accounts at once

It finds ways you might be wasting money, like unused storage or servers

It works with AI assistants like Claude Desktop and Amazon Q

To use it, you need: Python 3.10 or newer, an AWS account and basic AWS permissions set up. The tool is free to use, though AWS might charge a small fee (about 1 cent) each time you check your costs.

FOCUS
Azure & Google Cloud Cost Reporting using FOCUS

Microsoft's FinOps hubs help companies manage and track their cloud costs across different providers. This article explains how to connect Google Cloud billing data to Microsoft FinOps hubs. The setup process takes about 2-3 hours and requires:

Access to both Azure and Google Cloud accounts
Google Cloud project with BigQuery enabled
Proper permissions and roles set up
Billing data export configured in Google Cloud
A working FinOps hub deployment

The main steps

Setting up Google Cloud to export billing data in the right format
Creating special tables to track and organize the cost data
Building an automated system to move data from Google to Azure
Converting the data into a format that works with both cloud providers

The end result lets organizations compare costs between Azure and Google Cloud.

AZURE
Azure Cost Allocation Tutorial

A FinOps expert shares his experience with Azure's cost allocation system and why it might create more problems than solutions. The story begins when 12 Hub-subscriptions were split across 70 Devops-subscriptions in March 2025. This change made tracking costs much harder for everyone involved. Here's what went wrong:

The system only moved some costs but left others behind

Teams couldn't easily see their actual spending

Product Owners had trouble separating their direct costs from shared costs

The cost tracking tools stopped working properly

The writer found some temporary fixes such as using special tags to track original costs, creating custom dashboards for different teams and making separate views for direct and shared costs

But these fixes aren't perfect. The system still causes issues with billing processes, cost tracking and finding unusual spending patterns.

NEW! CSP Updates on FinOps: AWS GPU Price Cuts & Azure Cost Management Updates

We are starting a new format where we are going to gather all CSP announcements in FinOps Weekly Blog and provide you with the summary.

AWS

The Amazon CloudWatch agent now tracks EBS volume performance on Linux systems. This means you can easily see if your storage is working well without writing special code.

AWS also released their Invoice Summary API for everyone. Finance teams can now automatically get billing information instead of manually checking the console.

In big money-saving news, AWS cut prices by up to 45% on their computer instances that use NVIDIA GPUs. This makes high-performance computing much more affordable.

Microsoft Azure

The Cost Management tool got several updates, including new ways to organize cost reports and better support for savings plans.

They also updated their FinOps Toolkit to version 0.11, which helps teams manage their Azure spending more effectively with improved dashboards and data collection.

GreenOps Starter Kit

The CloudCostChefs team (Mathieu) has created a simple way to make cloud computing better for both your wallet and the environment. They call it the GreenOps Starter Kit. The kit comes with practical tools:

A 30-day plan that shows you exactly what to do

Templates to track your progress

Scripts that automate tasks

Guides for AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud

Begin with one project, learn what works, then grow from there. The kit helps you focus on simple improvements first, like turning off unused systems and moving data to more efficient storage.
