Switch from Flexera to FinOpsly: Get Up to 6 Months Free

Still reporting spend after the damage is done?

Flexera shows cloud spend after it happens.

FinOpsly is built for proactive AI cost governance so teams can control spend before it turns into waste & measure the ROI of their AI initiatives, including tracking customer profitability and margin.

See how FinOpsly helps you:

Estimate before launch: Model AI workloads, data pipelines, and infrastructure costs before they go live.

Govern more than cloud: Control spend across AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes, Snowflake, Databricks, GPUs, models, and AI workloads.

Act with confidence: Turn savings opportunities into approved, policy-governed actions.

Eligible Flexera customers may qualify for up to 6 months free.

FINOPS GOVERNANCE
27% Of FinOps Practitioners Don't Know FOCUS

A new study has some real news for FinOps teams. Researchers surveyed 28 FinOps practitioners working in hybrid setups, meaning they use both cloud and on-site systems.

The result: 27% had never heard of FOCUS, the standard built to help compare cloud and on-premises costs.

The study also found something useful. Practitioners who knew about FOCUS believed strongly in its value.

This tells us the real problem is not resistance to FOCUS. It is simply exposure.

Foundation leaders interviewed in the study agreed the gap is real, though awareness is slowly improving each year.

A short internal session explaining what FOCUS does could bring more value than another new dashboard.

Closing this knowledge gap may be one of the easiest wins in cost management today.

AWS
The "Zero-Bill" Cloud: Routing AWS Cost Alerts to Discord with Lambda and SNS

Runaway cloud bills are a real fear for anyone building on AWS. A small side project or hackathon MVP can quietly rack up charges while nobody notices the email alert sitting in a spam folder.

This article shows a simple fix. It walks through building a "Zero-Bill" alert system that sends AWS budget warnings straight to Discord.

AWS Budgets tracks spending in real time. When costs cross a set limit, like one dollar, it sends a message through Amazon SNS.

A small Lambda function written in Python catches that message and forwards it to a Discord channel using a webhook. The result is an instant ping the moment spending starts to climb. Two common mistakes:

- One is an SNS policy error that happens when the budget permissions are not added correctly to the access policy.

- The other is using the wrong Python library, which can break the Lambda function unless set up carefully.

AZURE STRATEGY
Reservation exchanges for Azure services covered by savings plans end starting

Starting February 1, 2027, you will no longer be able to exchange reservations for services that are also covered by savings plans.

This includes big ticket items like Virtual Machines, App Service, Dedicated Host, and several database services like SQL Database, Cosmos DB, and PostgreSQL.

If you own a reservation for one of these services today, you get one last exchange after the deadline passes. After that, no more swaps are allowed on that reservation.

New reservations bought after February 1, 2027 will not support exchanges at all. Nothing changes for cancellations or instance size flexibility on virtual machines. For FinOps teams, this is a signal to act now.

- If your workloads change often, a savings plan may fit better than a reservation going forward.

- If your workloads are steady and predictable, reservations still make sense and remain available to buy.

CLOUD PROVIDERS
AWS rolls out cost efficiency dashboards, Bedrock tracking, and faster S3 tiering

AWS

- Redshift Serverless added an all upfront option for 3-year reservations, delivering up to 50% savings over on-demand rates for steady workloads.

- Kinesis Data Streams added warm throughput scale-down, letting fluctuating workloads reduce reserved capacity when demand drops.

- AWS Clean Rooms added bigger 32 vCPU worker types, speeding up heavy SQL analyses and cutting overall compute time.

Google Cloud

- Cloud Billing added spend cap budgets in preview, automatically pausing usage when estimated costs cross a set limit.

- Cloud Billing introduced early anomaly signals for AI workloads, flagging cost spikes from Gemini and Vertex AI before invoices arrive.

- Compute Engine boosted Hyperdisk Balanced throughput for C4D machines, helping teams match storage to real needs instead of overbuying.

Azure

- AKS Fleet Manager resource placement reached general availability, cutting manual work and configuration drift across clusters.

- Azure Monitor Logs mirroring entered public preview, streaming telemetry to Microsoft Fabric without duplicating storage or ETL costs.

- AKS Prepared Image Specification entered preview, pre-baking node images to speed up scale-outs and reduce overprovisioning costs.

Google Cloud's New Budget Tools Catch AI Cost Spikes Early and Cap Runaway Spending

AI spending can spike fast, and that makes many finance teams nervous.Google Cloud just launched two new tools to help.

1. The first tool watches your AI costs every day.

It learns your normal spending pattern automatically, so you do not have to set it up by hand.

If costs start climbing, it warns you early, often before your bill even shows the charge. It also tells you which specific service is causing the spike.

2. Spend Caps lets you set a hard spending limit for a service.

Once you hit that limit, Google Cloud stops new usage for that service right away, usually within minutes. Your data stays safe, and other services keep running normally.

You get email alerts at 50%, 80%, and 100% of your budget, so there are no surprises. If you need to turn usage back on, you can do it with one click.

One thing to remember: fixed contracts, like committed use discounts, keep billing even if a cap is triggered.

Together, these tools give teams a way to catch problems early and stop them before they get expensive.

For any company using AI at scale, this means fewer surprise bills and more control over spending.

🎖️ MENTION OF HONOUR
Good news: your observability bill is about to drop

Your observability bill might be about to shrink, and here is why. Tools like Datadog, Dynatrace, and New Relic charge a big premium for pretty dashboards. But those dashboards are built for humans to look at.

If AI agents are now doing the watching and fixing, that premium buys nothing. Self hosted tools like Prometheus and Grafana cost close to the real floor price. Commercial SaaS tools cost 5 to 9 times more for the same data.

Much of that extra cost comes from copying data you already pay for through CloudWatch into a second paid system.

Reading data where it already lives, instead of copying it, cuts a huge chunk of that cost.

Dashboards show symptoms but rarely show why something broke. Config changes, permission changes, and system drift often hold the real answer.
